LOCAL RIDERS LEAD HAGENS BERMAN / SUPERMINT PRO CYCLING TEAM


Arlington, Va. – A new American UCI women’s team owned by racer Lindsay Bayer and Sports Director Jono Coulter, Hagens Berman | Supermint Pro Cycling, will be making its first appearance at this year’s Air Force Association Cycling Classic on June 11th and 12th in Arlington, Virginia.

The Hagens Berman | Supermint roster is diverse, featuring local riders Lindsay Bayer and Julie Kuliecza as well as many international riders. ANNUAL CYCLING CLASSIC RETURNS TO ARLINGTON THIS JUNE


Arlington, Va. – The Air Force Association Cycling Classic, presented by Boeing, returns to Arlington, Va., June 11-12, 2016. In its 19th year, the Washington, D.C. area’s premier cycling event features professional and amateur races, challenge rides, and kids races. The weekend’s festivities are open to all cycling enthusiasts.

“For nearly two decades, the Air Force Association Cycling Classic has honored the servicemen and woman who have dedicated their lives to protecting our nation,” said Dennis Muilenburg, Boeing chairman, president and CEO, and race participant. “Boeing’s partnership with the U.S. military dates back nearly 100 years, and we are tremendously proud to continue supporting our Air Force customer and the courageous veterans and families who benefit from this worthwhile event.”

U.S. Air Force Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance to Serve as Honorary Team Captain for Upcoming Air Force Association Cycling Classic Armed Forces Challenge


All Five Service Branches will Participate in the Race

(Arlington,five service branches will compete for bragging rights at the upcoming Air Force Association Cycling Classic (AFACC), during the Navy Federal Credit Union Armed Forces Challenge, a friendly competition within the AFACC’s Challenge Ride taking place on June 14. Lieutenant Robert P. Otto will serve as the U.S. Air Force team’s Honorary Team Captain. He will also serve as the Challenge Ride’s official race starter.

“As an enthusiastic cyclist myself, I am excited to take part in an event which not only promotes such a healthy activity, but also supports our airmen and their families on the road to recovery” said Lt. Gen Robert P. Otto, Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, HQ USAF.

The Armed Forces Challenge is open to cyclists of all abilities. Race officials will track the lap count of each service branch team member, and the branch whose participants complete the most laps will be honored and recognized on stage during Sunday’s men’s Pro race. The U.S. Air Force was the top lap accumulator in 2014. It doesn’t matter if you are participating as an individual, Team Sabre or a Corporate Challenge rider, your laps will count! So, if you are active duty, reserve or retired, make sure to note that when you register.

US Army - Colonel Mike Katona, Army Legislative Liason

Air Force Association Cycling Classic Fundraisers to be Honored at Air Force Memorial Concert Funds Raised for Race will Support the Air Force Association’s Wounded Airman Program


(Arlington, VA) –Arlington Sports will honor the Air Force Association Cycling Classic’s (AFACC) fundraisers prior to the Air Force Memorial’s 2015 Summer Concert Series performance on Friday, June 12 at 8:00pm. The evening will also feature the USAF Honor Guard Drill Team, who will be performing before the concert at 7:30pm. Over the last several weeks, cyclists participating as part of Team Sabre have raised funds to support the Air Force Association’s (AFA) Wounded Airman Program (WAP), which supports wounded, ill and injured Airmen with adaptive equipment needs, financial support and care and quality of life items. On behalf of all the individual Team Sabre and Thales Corporate Challenge fundraisers, Arlington Sports will present a check for the total amount raised, to AFA before the concert in a check presentation ceremony. Representatives from both Boeing and Thales, key sponsors of the event and the fundraising challenge, will also be in attendance.

Armed Forces Cycling Challenge Competition Heats Up

Kids Race To Help Awareness for Tay-Sachs and other Genetic Disorders:
Ride in Remembrance of Ethan


(Arlington, VA) – The Air Force Association Cycling Classic (AFACC), and Arlington Sports, the promoting organization, is proud to announce a partnership with a local Clarendon family who lost a child to a rare genetic disease. Ethan Klancnik was born in 2012 with Tay-Sachs. The Ethan Klancnik Memorial Kids Race to support the Tay-Sachs Awareness and Prevention Organization (TSAPO) will be raced in his honor, fulfilling Ethan’s wish to create more awareness and support for families dealing with Tay-Sachs and other rare genetic disorders.

“We are very excited to once again be teaming up with the Air Force Association Cycling Classic Kids Race this year! Our kids have participated in it for years, and it is such an amazing community event in Clarendon!” said Michelle Klancnik, Founder of the Tay-Sachs Awareness and Prevention Organization.

The Ethan Klancnik Memorial Kids Race is free to all children 9 and under. Participants are able to ride a lap on the Pro/Am course on Saturday, June 13 in Clarendon, just prior to the Men’s featured race. Proceeds from the Ethan Klancnic Memorial Kids Race T-shirt sales will benefit TSAPO. There will be another opportunity for kids to race on Sunday, June 14 in Crystal City at the Crystal Cup race course, shortly after the Men’s Pro/Am race. Congressional Cycling Challenge Brings Democrats and Republicans Together to Compete for a Good Cause


(Arlington, VA) - The Air Force Association Cycling Classic (AFACC) is again hosting a friendly competition for Republicans and Democrats! Capitol Hill's cycling enthusiasts and novice riders will have the opportunity to go head-to-head for a good cause in the USAA Congressional Challenge, which benefits the Air Force Association’s Wounded Airman Program. The winning party also gets to take home bragging rights to the hill.

The Congressional Challenge is a part of the AFACC's Challenge Ride and welcomes any Senator, Member of Congress and their staff to sign up and compete as individuals as well as for their party. Race officials will count the laps of each individual Hill participant, and at the end, the total laps of individuals from members of each party will be tallied to determine the winner. Last years competition saw the Republican Party defeat the Democrats by just one lap.
