Challenge Ride General Information

The Challenge Ride is an amateur, non-competitive, participatory ride, open to cyclists of all abilities. The ride takes place on a course closed to traffic, starting and finishing in Crystal City traveling past the Pentagon and up to Rosslyn and back. The course opens at 7:00am and closes at 10:00am. You can participate as a Standard Registrant or as a member of a Thales Corporate Challenge Team.

IMPORTANT: Please keep an eye on your lap times! Due to Arlington County road closure permits, we have to be strict with the 3 hour time limit. Therefore, we will not allow participants to begin another lap if there isn’t enough time remaining to complete a full lap. The fastest riders take approximately 20 minutes to complete a lap. To facilitate this, we will send out the pace car and a shuttle bus, traveling at the pace of the fastest lap. If the pace car catches you, you will be asked to leave the course or board the shuttle bus which we will bring you back to the S/F line.

The Navy Federal Credit Union Armed Forces Challenge: Active Duty, retired and reserve armed forces members compete to earn bragging rights as the most competitive service. The service whose participants completes the most TOTAL laps, as well as the most laps completed by their top 6 riders, will be honored and recognized on stage during Sunday’s Men’s Pro race. The US Air Force was the top lap accumulator the past five years, but the Army was very close in 2016! It doesn’t matter if you are participating as an individual or if you are on a Corporate Challenge team, if you are active duty, retired or reserve, your laps will count as part of this challenge! When you Register, indicate your branch of service. You will need to bring a military ID to packet pick-up to confirm your status. Thales Corporate Challenge: Companies and organizations form teams to participate in the Challenge Ride. Registration fees are based on the number of riders in a team. There is also a $1000 minimum team/corporation pledge. Teams are invited to create their own Fundraising page to support their charity of choice. The top three fund-raising teams will be recognized on stage on Sunday, following the Challenge Ride. In addition, awards will be given after the ride to the Corporate Challenge Team that accumulates the most TOTAL laps, as well as the most laps accumulated by their top 6 riders.

Congressional Challenge: Fun challenge between the Republican and Democratic parties. Participants must work on the hill (house or senate) to compete in the Congressional Challenge. There is no additional fee to participate, so help your party complete the most laps and win! Participants who are part of the Congressional Challenge will need to list whose office they work in and their party affiliation so we can properly score the lap totals.
